ABOUT GATE
Welcome!
This past year we have learned to embrace the unexpected and rise to the challenge of creating a fully digitized edition of Gate. We created a literary magazine adapts to the new normal to which we have acclimated. Since November, the staff has been building a world rich with your literary and artistic genius. We are excited to present the 2022 edition in its new home.
MISSION:
Our publications strive to showcase excellent works of art and writing from within the Madeira student body, to promote self-expression and individuality, to provide a means by which the talented authors and artists from within our community can share their work, and to bring people together through a shared love of literature and art
VISION:
We look for literature submissions that provoke interesting thoughts and discussions in our readers and push people out of their comfort zones in surprising, sophisticated ways.
The work we publish is meant to be shared by and within the community and our curation of work is geared towards exploring shared experiences rather than expressing intense individual experiences. We work to develop and highlight the complexities of the life experiences that we do share.
We want work that is different, interesting, and makes us think. We want to see the artist through the work, and hear the author's voice.
Our mission and vision are achieved through the annual publication of Gate literary magazine, production of the MadLit podcast series, and through the Gate-sponsored readings and events. Join us in our work by contributing to any (or all) of these remarkable enterprises!

Amanda Oliver
Editor in Chief
Amanda Oliver is a junior boarder from Bethesda, Maryland. She loves Harry Potter, and her love of reading definitely comes in handy as the Chief Editor of the Gate literary magazine! She leads events, reviews and approves submissions, and is ultimately in charge of each branch of the magazine. Her favorite part of Gate is getting to work with so many amazing people.

Annabelle Stack
Executive Producer
MadLit Podcast
Annabelle Stack is a senior day student from Reston, Virginia. She draws comics and writes stories, but her chief job on the literary magazine is acting as the executive producer of the podcasting team! She has been a part of Gate since her freshman year, and she loves to see the creative work that everyone adds to the team. Her favorite part of the podcast are the collaborative/brainstorming sessions they have when first starting new episodes. While things can get a little crazy, the podcasting team always ends up with fantastic ideas for each segment that Anabelle then helps bring to life.

Rachel Adler
Layout Editor
Rachel Adler is a junior day student from Great Falls, Virginia. She has been a member of Gate for two years, and she is in charge of the layout division. She works hard to create artistically pleasing layouts for each of our submissions, and she leads her team in bringing the Gate vision to life.

Sofia Freedman
Director of Public Relations
Sofia Freedman is a senior day student from Bethesda, Maryland. She has been a member of Gate since her sophomore year. Sofia joined the PR team because she found it to be a perfect mix of bringing people together and writing. Her main job is planning events and coming up with ways to get people excited about Gate, and her favorite part of that job is seeing those events come to life! A fun (depending on how you look at it) fact about Sofia is that she tore her meniscus tripping over a log.
